An early piece I created, recounting my grandfather's story of Iraqi heritage. He suffered a stroke when I was just one year old, spending the last fourteen years of his life in a geriatric hospital. Due to the stroke, he lost his ability to communicate verbally, and our relationship was expressed through shared looks. 'Aiyuni' (translated to English as 'my eyes') was the nickname he affectionately used for my siblings and me when, tragically, his memory failed him, and he forgot our names.
